2 Character Traits to Develop for Success!

§ June 1st, 2011 § Filed under Personal Success § Tagged , , , , § No Comments

Finishing the year with my Nursing Students, I was thinking about the “great wisdom” I should impart to them in our final class together. As I look back at my own life, my advice today boils down to two critical character traits. Neither of them  were inherited. Both were developed by first observing them in others, watching their success, then trying them out in my own life.  I share them with you here, with a side note that they both go hand in hand.

Bring It On!

Yes, that’s right. It’s the thought process that shows you have the upper hand. It comes about from a lifestyle of learning, being prepared, and building confidence. It’s not arrogant, just confident that when you are approaching a situation, a problem, a new circumstance, or a new day, you are ready to deal with whatever it brings.

“Bring it on” is a mindset that says, no matter what, I will figure out a way to handle the situation, and am confident that I will succeed.

When my son was a young baseball player, he read something that encouraged him to have this type of thinking. The question posed was something like “when you are out in right field, are you saying to yourself, I hope the ball doesn’t come to me, please, God, help the ball not to come to me, I know I’m going to drop it or miss it”, or are you thinking “I hope the ball comes to me so I can make the play and help my team win this game – bring it on!”

That’s the difference in success and failure. Always being in the mental “ready position”. Always confident that you are prepared to do what needs to be done to win with integrity.

What’s Next?

This is the question successful people ask themselves constantly, even more so when a failure, roadblock, or something unexpected occurs. They don’t sit and pine over the loss or failure. Well, maybe just for a minute. But the very next thought they have is  “What am I going to do to move forward?  What is my next step?  How am I going change what I’m doing to achieve my goals?” They adapt, perhaps alter, their course, always putting one foot in front of the other.

This is huge! This question will keep you on the path moving forward. Yes, you may need to change a few things, but what do you need to do to move forward? After you have accomplished something, don’t stop, instead just keep ask yourself:  What’s next? Where do I go from here? It may mean steadying the ship and staying the course, or you may need to adjust the sails and move in a slightly or totally different direction.  When you are in the ready position, you can easily adjust and keep moving in a positive direction.

Are you ready to Bring it On?

How to Write Goals and Objectives for the New Year!

§ January 3rd, 2010 § Filed under Personal Success, Uncategorized § Tagged , , , , , , , § No Comments

Happy New Year to You!!Times Square New Years 2010 by Suzzie J

I’m all about setting goals and moving forward  - here’s why:

~ Goals focus on an endpoint, or multiple endpoints, with intent and purpose.

~Achieving goals occurs by establishing smaller goals that ultimately accomplish Bigger Goals!

~I think the word “goal”, has a positive connotation, even “momentum” attached to it.

~Accomplishing goals keeps me moving forward with direction.

~There is great satisfaction in the accomplishment of goals!

That’s a short list, and to go with its shortness, is the goal I have of posting shorter blogs!  Ha, Ha!

My husband and I have come up with a list of goals for each year we have been married.  We make time around the end of the year to look at our goals from the previous year, see what we achieved and make new ones for the coming year.  We discuss our strategies for accomplishing them, and set some objectives, or smaller goals, that get us to the big ones!

This past year, we succeeded in achieving more of our goals than we have in our 20 years together, and, in spite of the economy, had the most successful year ever!  Tips for accomplishing your goals:

~WRITE THEM DOWN !

~PLACE THEM WHERE YOU CAN SEE THEM EVERY DAY - even multiple times a day!

~CREATE OBJECTIVES, or mini goals, that when accomplished lead to achieving the bigger goal.  Objectives begin with an action word.  If your goal is to lose 10 pounds, one of your objectives could be to “Remove all potato chips from the house on January first.”  You can see how specific an objective can be!

~Establish what you will do to CELEBRATE the accomplishment of your goals!

~Lastly, Your goals are WHATEVER YOU WANT THEM TO BE!

Here’s what Candace Keefe, CEO of Apiori Beauty says about goals:

“January 2010

Happy New Year!
Now is the time to set new goals. Instead of a New Year’s resolution that lasts a week or two, set a personal goal that will carry you through 2010. The new year can be filled with big changes, if you choose to make a change.

At Apriori Beauty, ….YOU have total control of your future and the difference you can make for yourself and others! Helping just one person find personal success can make such a difference for you. It only takes one person, one at a time, to create huge momentum.”  (Go to http://www.aprioribeauty.com/fic/candace to read the rest!)

6 Qualities of Winners!

§ December 13th, 2009 § Filed under Personal Success § Tagged , , , , , , , , , § 3 Comments

Ever been around someone whose presence just lit up the room?  Good things always happen when they’re around – even if it’s a rough day on the job,  having them work by your side always makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE  for the better.  What is it about them that is so special?? Galloping Horses by dhawkslee  What qualities do they posses that make them winners??

~ PASSION ~

They are passionate about life, which spills over into everything they are into.  ”Most people have a passion for significance”, says Mark Sanborn, author of ”The Fred Factor”.  The day is much livelier whenever passionate people  are around!  Do you have passion?

~ COMMITTMENT ~

They are committed to their goals and vision.  They are focused, knowing how to get it done right.  Nothing can waiver them.  If an obstacle presents, they work around or through it to a successful resolution, and make the transition with great flexibility!  Are you committed?

~ CONSISTENCY ~

You can take it to the bank that they will be consistent in their approach and committment.  This brings stability and security to those that work with them, and allows them to take risks without fear.  There’s a huge trust factor here!  Are you consistent?

(Visit Mark Sanborn’s miniblog for more insight into the consequences of commitment-http://www.marksanborn.com/blog/ where he talks about beliefs, behaviors and the right consequences from being committed.)

~ PERSISTENCE ~Swiss Alps by Mihai NEDELEA

They never give up!   Optimists at heart, they always look at the brighter side, and what is needed to keep the ship steering in the right direction.  Then they just kept moving forward, persistently forward!

“You can only reach the finish line if you keep running toward it.  Those who stop, never make it.  It’s just not possible to be a success if you quit trying” (Candace Keefe, author of “How Bad Do You Want It”).

Are you persistent?

~ DISCIPLINE ~

It is obvious in their behaviors and mannerisms – committment, consistency and persistence are all results of a disciplined mindset followed by actions.  Are you disciplined?

~ HUMOR ~

The most successful people I remember, always, always had a great sense of humor. Even in the worst of situations, there was always a little something to share that could lift your spirits and make you smile!  How’s your sense of humor?

What did I leave out?  I’m sure there are more!

There’s someone who I have the priviledge of working with at Apriori Beauty, Candace Keefe, CEO, who has all of these characteristics, and then some.  Committed to making life beautiful for so many others, she is passionate about life and beauty, committed to elevate the public perception of the network marketing industry, persistent in her vision to produce the most innovative products with the finest ingredients and technologies, and oh, so creative and fun!  She has seen much difficulty in her life, but is disciplined in making each obstacle a stepping stone, blazing many new paths, and always with integrity.  That’s why she is a personal success, and that’s why she has tremendous credibility and a huge following!

I have met others who are given a great opportunity, but give up with the first difficulty that arises.  They may have passion and start out committed, but lack consistency and persistence, giving way to distraction, and discouragement.  To be able to keep forging ahead when the road is tough comes from a strong and focused mindset and much discipline.

So, when you take a look at where you have come from and plan your course for the future, think about what you can improve upon to accomplish your goals, making it an enjoyable journey for everyone along for the ride with you!

What can you do to increase your passion, make a stronger committment, be more consistent and persistent, develop greater discipline and improve your sense of humor?

I welcome your comments!
