“The Girls in My Circle”

When I was checking in for my annual mammogram this morning, this wonderful piece was displayed on the counter with copies for patients to take. Find a quiet place and some tissues, as I share it here with you:

“The Girls In My Circle”

When I was little, I used to believe in the concept of one best friend, and then I started to become a woman.

And then I found that if you allow your heart to open up, God would show you the best in many friends.

One friend is needed when you’re going through things with your man. Another friend is needed when you’re going through things with your mom. Another when you want to shop, share, heal, hurt, joke or just be.

One friend will say, “Let’s cry together,” another, “Let’s fight together,” another, “Let’s walk away together.”

One friend will meet your spiritual need, another your shoe fetish, and another your love for movies, another will be with you in your season of confusion, another will be your clarifier, another will be the wind beneath your wings.

But whatever their assignment in your life, on whatever the occasion, on whatever day, wherever you need them to meet you with their gym shoes on and hair pulled back, or to hold you back from making a complete fool of yourself….those are your best friends.

It may all be wrapped up in one woman, but for many, it’s wrapped in several….one from 7th grade, one from high school, several from the college years, a couple from old jobs, on some days your mother, on some days your neighbor, on others your sisters, and on some days your daughters.

So whether they’ve been your friend for 20 minutes or 20 years, God has placed this “girl” in the circle of your life to make a difference.

I shared it with one woman who had accompanied her friend being worked up for a lump in her breast, who shared it with someone she met in the waiting room who had just completed chemotherapy. It truly touched my heart and I hope it touches you to share it with the “Girls in Your Circle”.

Some Trusting Thoughts…..

§ October 24th, 2009 § Filed under Uncategorized § Tagged , , , , § No Comments

Trust is something that is earned and enjoyed over time! Trusting relationships have branches that reach far and wide, embracing those within through highs and lows, thick and thin, sunshine and rainy weather. Take a moment to think of  people in your life who you trust. We have our family doctors and dentists, definitely our hairstylist, and those we purchase from. All of our acquaintances and friends, past and present that come in and out of our lives. Some of us have close family ties, some not.  In all of these relationships, there is a degree of trust.

I believe trust must be reciprocated. We can trust someone, but they must prove themselves trustworthy by being honest with us, showing integrity in all aspects of their life, and maintaining a character that we can safely bestow our confidence in.  When our trust is broken, it takes a long time to rebuild, if it ever can be.

Close trusting relationships have deep roots that come from life experiences we have journeyed through together. Through all kinds of times, those who we trust the most have stayed with us. Together we have made many great  memories!

Webster’s Dictionary defines trust as “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength or truth of someone or something.” I trust my doctor and dentist to always tell me things straight. I trust my hair stylist to create a “do” that expresses my personality to the world in positive way! I trust those that teach my children to have their best interest in mind. I trust my friends and family to love and accept me, but also help me deal with “life” honestly and believe they want me to do the same for them.

In business, we want those we serve to trust that we will always be honest, and maintain an impeccable character. Would we want to do business with some one of less than stellar integrity? No. We want to be proud of those we affiliate ourselves with. We want to tell others about them and have them enjoy our trusting relationships, too.  That’s what makes us tick! We love to share our lives, our finds, our experiences with each other. We get satisfaction from having something to share that will bring value to other lives!

I hope you have people in your life that you love and trust. Take a moment to share how thankful you are to have them in your life. It can be as simple as saying “I am so thankful for you!’ to sending a little note or doing something that lets them know how appreciative you are for being someone you can trust.

I trust that you have enjoyed my thoughts and will stop by for another visit soon!
